Robert is an avid bow hunter and we love the summers here for the fishing. Lynchburg and the surrounding areas have some of the finest hunting and fishing around. The National Forest in Amherst County is a great place to harvest deer. Robert also donates at least one Doe per season to Hunters for the Hungry. This is a great place to live for the outdoorsman.
The city of Lynchburg also hosts a series of festival events during the summer months downtown and on the Riverfront. We have a Batteau festival every year. They will start at the James River in Lynchburg with the home made batteau's and pole down stream to Richmond like they did many years ago. Also, on Saturday mornings the Community Market is the place to buy local produce and goods. Friday Cheers is a good time with bands and food. Our Grandson, like so many of the kids in town love Amusement Square. It's a great place to learn the history of Lynchburg combined with fun things to do.
For the Civil War buffs, Lynchburg has a Historic Districts that have many beautiful homes. Court House Hill, Daniel's Hill (that's where the Point of Honor is located) Diamond Hill, Federal Hill and Garland Hill. The City Cemetary. Sandusky Historic Site. We are just a short drive from Appomattox Historical Museum and the Surrender grounds. In Amherst there is the Monacan Ancestral Musem.
Lynchburg also has many places of higher eduction. Lyncburg College, Randolph College (formerly Randolph Macon Womens College) Liberty University, Sweet Briar College is located in Amherst, and Central Virginia Community College. Lynchburg has The Virginia Schools of the Arts. Lynchburg has so much to offer and it keeps growing each year.
